Diablo II: Resurrected Technical Alpha Starts Friday

Those who cannot wait to dive into Diablo II: Resurrected can get a taste of it this weekend, at least if you get lucky.

Blizzard announced the single-player technical alpha for Diablo II: Resurrected begins Friday, April 9 and will run through Monday, April 12. Blizzard will select a limited number of PC players who pre-registered for the alpha with invitations coming out in waves.

Those chosen to play the HD remaster of Diablo II can choose between three classes for their character: Barbarian, Amazon, and Sorceress. As for the amount of content, Blizzard says the first two acts of the game will be accessible in the alpha. Players will challenge the Maiden of Anguish, Andariel, and later Duriel, the Lord of Pain. While players will only get a taste of the story, there is no level cap in the alpha. So if you have the time, you can power up and upgrade your character to your heart’s content. Don’t expect all of the game’s visual upgrades in the alpha though. Blizzard states in their FAQ the alpha will feature the original in-game cinematics as the updated cinematics are still in development. Don’t be too sad console players. Blizzard said consoles will be featured in a future test phase. Also, players will be able to stream and record.

Diablo II originally released 20 years ago and became one of the most popular games of the time. The game received critical reception and is considered one of the best games ever made. I spent countless hours playing it, even going so far as acquiring hacked items which was common at the time.

Diablo II: Resurrected features the original title and the expansion Lord of Destruction with 4K resolution, fully 3D rendering, and audio remaster from the original. Those lucky enough to have their original save file will be able to import it in the game. You can read more about the updates and changes for the remaster by visiting the game’s website.

Diablo II: Resurrected will release sometime in 2021 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S
