Resident Evil Village Releases May 7, Demo Available on PS5 Now

Players won’t be waiting long to jump back into the shoes of Ethan Winters following the announcement at the Resident Evil Showcase.

Capcom revealed the next iteration in the historic franchise will release on May 7 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC on Steam. Those who purchase the PS4 version will get a free digital upgrade to the PS5 version. Xbox One users will also get the Xbox Series version with Smart Delivery.

The game is available for pre-order starting today with a standard and digital deluxe edition. A collector’s edition is available only for consoles. Those who haven’t played the prequel, Resident Evil 7, can also purchase the Biohazard bundle. This edition includes Resident Evil 7 and the DLC to play right away while you wait for Village‘s release. They followed up the announcement showing off the first look at gameplay.

Village keeps the first person perspective of RE7 as the team felt it draws players into the world. The game will feature an inventory management system similar RE 4, but will include crafting like for health and ammo. The trailer also revealed the return of the merchant, only this time he is called The Duke. Players can buy items and weapons from him at various points in the game.

Producer Pete Fabiano also revealed a playable demo is available to play today exclusively on the PlayStation 5.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, a multiplayer title called Resident Evil Re:Verse also got announced. The game is a six-person deathmatch that features a comic book like art style. The trailer revealed playable character like Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, and even Nemesis. The title will be free to anyone who purchases Resident Evil Village.
