Phantom Breaker: Omnia Shows Off Fan Voted Gameplay Battle

Guilty Gear Strive and King of Fighters XV may have everyone’s attention for fighting games of 2021, but there’s another one that continues to impress me. That title is none other than Phantom Breaker: Omnia.

Publisher Rocket Panda Games released a new video on their YouTube channel showing off more gameplay for the upcoming 2D fighter. The 1-vs-1 battle pits characters Mikoto and M against each other. The fight came about from a fan vote held by the publisher on their social channels. The roughly two minute video shows off various mechanics players will need to master to claim victory.

The Fire in Your Heart is Burning

Developed by Mages, Phantom Breaker: Omnia is set to release sometime in 2021. The new entry is labeled as a massive update to Phantom Breaker: Extra which originally released back in 2013. Omnia will feature 20 playable characters including Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate and two brand new ones. RPG says the game will also feature dual language audio with Japanese and English voice acting with some well known voices in the voice acting community. The update also includes the full story experience from the original release and the update in Extra. The fighter doesn’t receive anywhere near the attention of GG and KoF and that’s likely due to the game being restricted to Japan for quite sometime.

The original Phantom Breaker released for the Xbox 360 in Japan back in 2011. It was slated to be released in North America in the first quarter of 2012, but it never happened. It then received an updated release in Phantom Breaker: Extra in September 2013. This entry featured re-balanced gameplay, new characters, a new fighting style, among other changes. Omnia will become the first fighting game title in the franchise to release in the west. The only other title in the Phantom Breaker universe to receive a release outside Japan came in the form of a chibi-style beat ’em up spinoff called Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds. Battle Grounds ended up selling over 400,000 copies. You can check out a recent AMA with the publisher by going here.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia will release sometime in 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
